Aeriosense Technologies Awarded Unmanned Aerial BVLOS Contract

Aeriosense Technologies Inc. announced today that LOOKNorth, the Canadian Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research for remote sensing innovation, has awarded strategic project funding to Aeriosense Technologies for the acceleration of UAS-based beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations. Aeriosense Technologies will perform a series of proof of concept trials with a leading utilities operator to provide regulators and industry stakeholders with operating experience and data to validate BVLOS operations across a range of application scenarios.

“Our vision is to integrate drones into the operational workflow of all infrastructure inspections, and BVLOS is a key element to achieving this goal,” said Alex Babakov, CEO of Aeriosense Technologies. “We are honoured to have been chosen for this critical project and to be working with our partners to support this opportunity.”

“Aerosense’s approach to the inspection of vertical assets such as power transmission infrastructure has significant safety and cost benefits for utilities when combined with BVLOS operations. This project will advance the business case and implementation strategy by the utility sector,” said Paul Adlakha, Managing Director of LOOKNorth. “In partnership with Unmanned Systems Canada, our objective is to advance BVLOS operations in Canada by demonstrating strong economic impacts and benefits to Canada of BVLOS operations, showcasing low risk operational applications, and delivering relevant safety data to advance the regulatory environment that enables BVLOS.”
