Digital Twins Improve Energy Security

Energy security has been a big topic the past month, with the global energy supply and demand in flux due to the Russia-Ukraine war. There are a lot of things that will push the world toward energy security—the transition to green energy sources being a big factor.

But the ability to work more efficiently in the existing systems is also key. And the best way to do that is with data. Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and using data helps energy companies become more efficient, safer, and aware of system performance.

Digital twins are helping energy companies take data points and give them context that helps with performance, optimization, scenario testing, planning, and much more. A digital twin can be created for anything from a single piece of equipment to an entire facility or even city.

In a recent Power Magazine article, Andrzej Golebiowski, senior vice president of Power & Utilities at Cognite AS, pointed out four main benefits of digital twins:

  • Reduced risk

  • Improved performance

  • Streamlined processes

  • A digital-ready workforce

The landscape of our world’s energy is changing—we’re amid the green energy transition. Digital twins and similar emerging technologies are vital for energy companies as they adapt.

Digital twins and energy security are two peas in a pod.
