Endeavour Energy Drone Inspection Launch
/Endeavour Energy conducted its first on-site inspection of physical electricity infrastructure using a combination of 5G, cloud, AI, drone technology, and ultra-high definition (UHD) cameras.
The project is being funded by the Australian Federal Government’s 5G Innovation Initiative and aims to enable faster identification (and therefore repair) of damage to power lines caused by storms, floods, bushfires, and other natural disasters.
With the initial outing—which was collaboration between Endeavour Energy, Optus, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and AWS partner Unleash live—deemed a success, the solution will now be deployed across other infrastructure assets.
On-site inspections are currently conducted using a large fleet of vehicles, helicopters, and a team of technicians to physically identify and carry out remediation. This program is expected to save Endeavour Energy time inspecting damage and restoring power to customers.
This is a spot-on example of emerging tech being used in the utility industry to save costs, improve safety, and see better outcomes faster.
