Industrial Drones and Robotics at CES 2024
/CES 2024 took place last week, and we have the scoop on hot new gadgets related to industrial drones and robots.
eVTOL Flying Cars
Multiple companies released information on their eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) vehicles.
Supernal, Hyundai Motor Group’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company, unveiled its S-A2 product concept. The S-A2 is a V-tail aircraft designed to cruise 120 miles per hour at 1,500 feet to meet typical city operation needs of 25- to 40-mile trips, initially.
XPENG AEROHT showed off its Land Aircraft Carrier, a modular flying car designed for consumers as well as potentially for commercial uses. It also showed off its eVTOL flying supercar, which offers the look, feel, and driving experience of a supercar, but can transition effortlessly from land to flight mode, allowing drivers to take to the air.
Autonomous, Electric Articulating Tractor
Doosan Bobcat unveiled the industry’s first autonomous and electric articulating tractor. The Bobcat AT450X, enabled by Agtonomy, is battery powered and designed to autonomously or remotely carry out critical farm tasks in compact applications, such as vineyards and orchards. Farmers can remotely direct the tractor to execute a wide range of tasks, including mowing, spraying, precision weeding, product and material transport, and other labor-intensive activities.
Autonomous Robots and Generative AI
NVIDIA shared numerous innovations surrounding autonomous robots, generative AI, and using AI to train autonomous robots. In a special address at CES, NVIDIA outlined its two-brain approach to AI-based robotics.
NVIDIA Vice President of Robotics and Edge Computing Deepu Talla shared how the infusion of generative AI into robotics is speeding up the ability to bring robots from proof of concept to real-world deployment. Talla gave a peek into the growing use of generative AI in the NVIDIA robotics ecosystem, where robotics innovators like Boston Dynamics and Collaborative Robots are changing the landscape of human-robot interaction.
Autonomous Drones
Nearthlab made its debut in the hardware sector with its AIDrone, which, as the name suggests, blends AI and drone technology. AIDrone executes tasks autonomously even in zero-light and GPS-denied environments, both indoors and outdoors.
At just about 4 lbs and featuring a foldable structure, AIDrone makes for an ultra-adaptable drone solution tailored for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), as well as for crisis management like wildfire response and law enforcement applications.
Moonwalker Robotics Shoes
Can you have more fun at work and be more productive? Shift Robotics and their Moonwalker shoes say yes. The Moonwalkers X shoes were revealed at CES and boast a new design and lighter profile than the original Moonwalkers and are specifically designed for business/commercial use.
The shoes leverage AI to measure a user’s step 100 times per second and provide individualized support to improve performance and safety for those who spend the majority of work days on their feet. The shoes can change between static and wheeled—working like regular shoes or roller skates depending on the terrain and user’s choice.
