New 12-mile BVLOS Waiver Granted

Forget Eminem’s 8 Mile, we’re now focused on 12 miles.

Censys Technologies and Soaring Eagle Technologies secured their third BVLOS waiver which covers a 12-mile distance.

The Soaring Eagle team plans to use the waiver for inspecting transmission power lines, enabling the remote pilot-in-command (RPIC) to fly three miles down range for a total of six unique miles of data.

Approval is thanks in part to a reputable safety case that uses Iris Automation’s advanced detect-and-avoid technology (DAA) system, Casia; was developed closely with the FAA; and has completed thousands of flights.

Will Paden, president of Soaring Eagle, said, “The continued expansion of BVLOS operations means data acquisition with significantly lower cost and environmental impact.”

Censys helped its customers secure five FAA BVLOS waivers in 2021 and continues to collect data and run field tests.
