Executive Q&A: How to Work Visually With Digital Twins

This is a sponsored post by VEERUM.

Ahead of our in-depth webinar with VEERUM CTO Rob Southon next week, we wanted to prime the pump and start picking his brain.

Register now for “Reality First: How to work visually with digital twins,” an Energy Drone & Robotics Coalition and Industrial IMMERSIVE webinar with VEERUM and join us live September 18 at 11 a.m. central. If you can’t make it live, still get registered and we’ll send out a recording of the webinar.

Joining us on the webinar will be Rob Southon. Rob is VEERUM’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) where he focuses on building digital solutions and guiding industry leaders with new visual ways to do work.

Here’s a bit of our pre-conversation conversation with Rob to wet your whistle.

How did you get started with digital twins and digital asset management?

VEERUM’s journey into digital twins began with a recognition of the industry’s need for a better way to visualize, aggregate, and analyze their 3D data. We saw a clear opportunity to revolutionize how industrial teams do work, visually. Our solution brings simplicity to asset management while translating complex asset data into productivity, safety, and return on investment for our clients. It’s this commitment to improving the way teams do work that underlies VEERUM’s success in the digital twin landscape.

VEERUM has worked with several energy/industrial companies to launch digital twin and data visualization projects. What are the key steps that asset owners/operators should take to launch their projects?

The first step is to get started by visualizing the data that you have today. There is a lot of value in centralizing and visualizing data, and then making it accessible to all stakeholders. Our clients are surprised by the amount of visual data they already have, including 2D and 3D reality capture, CAD and BIM, photos, 360 panoramic imagery, etc. This is the foundation of your digital twin. You can be up and running within 48 hours from kick-off.

The next step is to start connecting data integrations and workflows to meet the specific needs of your end users. VEERUM provides an end-to-end white glove service throughout the entire journey to ensure your onboarding experience is efficient and focused on ROI. Our team’s deep understanding within the energy industry ensures that our solution addresses the unique pain points of each client.

Data fragmentation is a big issue for asset managers who have complex infrastructure that they want to get into a digitization program. How should they approach this key area to get their data unified?

Our subject matter experts provide valuable guidance throughout this journey. To tackle data fragmentation, asset managers should work with VEERUM to understand their existing data sources and map them back to their digital twin. VEERUM's data-agnostic approach allows us to seamlessly integrate and unify all asset data, ensuring a smooth digitization process.

One key piece of advice for asset managers is to take a “tag-centric” approach to their own internal data models. Meaning that they should be using unique identifiers such as “tags” to help tie key pieces of data together, for more meaningful data experiences within the application.

VEERUM’s digital twin technology helps asset managers and owners understand where they have gaps in their data, so it becomes a visual indicator for data quality. You don’t have to wait for your data to be “perfect”, you can use VEERUM to understand where you have data quality issues and then fix those issues in an iterative fashion.

What are some of the key benefits that an asset owner/operator will gain by embracing better digital asset management?

Embracing better digital asset management with VEERUM unlocks a clear list of benefits for asset owners and operators. Our clients have achieved incredible KPIs such as 33% improvement in efficiency in relation to maintenance planning and execution, 50% reduced site exposure hours, and 50% reduction in inspection costs. We are also seeing significant reduction in travel, enhanced safety and operational efficiency, precise and constraint-free maintenance planning, and a seamless transition towards AI/ML adoption through this new visual way to do work.

That’s just the beginning of the knowledge Rob will drop next week. Make sure to register for “Reality First: How to work visually with digital twins” to:
