NVIDIA Announces Successful 5G VR Proof of Concept

NVIDIA announced a successful proof of concept (POC) that uses edge computing and 5G-enabled VR technology to allow engineering teams to collaborate virtually from different physical locations.

The project is being piloted at electric vehicle battery manufacturer Hyperbat. Two engineering teams located about 70 miles apart can collaborate as if they were in the same room thanks to a VR set up powered by edge computing installations and 5G.

Design and manufacturing teams are able to interact with a 3D, lifesize model of an electric vehicle battery. The renders are created using NVIDIA GPUs, RTX Virtual Workstation software, and Nvidia CloudXR technology. The 5G-enabled VR headset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform.
