O&G Execs Discuss Low Carbon Future

We weren’t the only awesome energy event happening in Houston last week. The Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) was also in town. One of the hot topics? Continuing to work toward net-zero goals as energy demands increase.

Speakers on the executive panel—which included leaders from Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Hess, and more—reiterated their commitment to net-zero goals while citing challenges ahead.

Kirk Johnson, senior vice president for Lower 48 and operations for ConocoPhillips, mentioned the company’s so-called “triple mandate,” which outlines its responsibilities for sustainability, energy demand, and stakeholder returns.

The panel candidly discussed emission reduction targets, shifts in global energy supply and demand, and the fiscal realities of stakeholder expectations.

A consensus among the panelists was the continued need for hydrocarbons, especially in the short term, and that there’s no silver bullet to reach net zero.

Next time both of our events are in town, we should grab lunch.
