AWE Yea: 2024 Immersive Tech Updates

AWE 2024—a massive spatial computing event—took place last week in Long Beach, California. As always, there were a ton of exciting presentations, tech demos, and product announcements. Here is a recap of some of the ones most relevant to industrial enterprises. 

ExxonMobil’s Digital Reality Ecosystem

XREAL Launches XREAL Beam Pro Mobile Device

XREAL unveiled its new Android mobile device called XREAL Beam Pro, bringing Google Play Store's apps to 3D space when viewed through XREAL AR glasses. Pricing is reasonable (starts at $199) and an enterprise edition will be announced soon. 

Hololight Enterprise-ready XR Streaming Platform

Hololight announced its Hololight Hub, an enterprise-grade, centralized app management platform for hosting, streaming, and scaling AR/VR applications. Using the web-based platform, enterprises can manage XR applications, including a catalog of industrial-grade XR applications.

HaptX Beings North American Shipments of Haptic Gloves

HaptX showed off the new HaptX Gloves G1, an advanced haptic glove for industrial work. New technology imitates unprecedented realism and can be used at set stations or on the go with the Airpack console. 

Evercoast Acquires Depthkit

Evercoast, a provider of end-to-end 3D spatial video software, announced the acquisition of Depthkit, a pioneer in volumetric capture. About the merger, the companies said that the extensive datasets collected by both companies can fill a much-needed gap in required training data.

Taqtile Announces Work Instruction Platform

Taqtile announced that Manifest, its work-instruction platform, will soon be available on ARGO smartglasses. Combining ARGO’s hand-tracking capabilities with Taqtile’s spatial computing technology creates a robust solution for deskless workers around the world.

Microsoft Adds Mesh Support and Features

Microsoft announced new avatar integrations and usability enhancements for its Microsoft Mesh platform. The new features are part of Microsoft’s efforts to develop an immersive avatar system. Microsoft also announced that the enhanced Mesh platform will be available for Mac users by late June.
